the bu-mac model T crankshaft

The material we have developed is a spheroidal graphite iron which has resulted in an increase in tensile strength and ultimate yield strength. This alloy will naturally dampen vibration and will accept huge torsional loading. A number of alloy combinations were tested in the prototype casting, from this the master pattern was designed and the material alloy established.

We designed the crankshaft with counterweights to ensure smooth engine operation and reliability. the bearing diameters available are between standard 1.248'' to 1.498''. This allows the Model T owner to either remachine the existing white metal or opt to use Model A conrods ( 1.498'' ) and to enlarge the main journal diameters anything from 1.250'' to 1.498''.

The crankshafts are supplied balanced but we advise that the flywheel, conrods and pistons also be balanced to ensure smooth and reliable motoring.

Minimal modifications are required to fit a standard BU-MAC crankshaft. Although these crankshafts are in their early stages of trialing, they have so far proven smooth running and reliable, making your Model T even more of a pleasure to drive.
